San Francisco Longshoremen’s Strike

San Francisco Longshoremen’s Strike
In the summer of 1934, a strike of stevedores on the West Coast escalated following the shooting of two strikers in San Francisco on 5 July. Led by Harry Bridges, other trade unions instigated a general strike involving 12,000 workers in San Francisco on 16 July 1934. The strike lasted four days before being settled on the dock workers’ terms by arbitration.
