Progressive Party

Progressive Party
Following Henry A. Wallace’s announcement of his candidacy for the presidency in December 1947, a Progressive Party was formed in July 1948 to support Wallace and Senator Glen Taylor of Idaho as his running mate. The party opposed the Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan, called for better relations with the Soviet Union, and was against the peacetime draft. It was endorsed by the Communist Party of the United States of America and American Labor Party. In the election, it received just over 1 million votes, less than 3 percent of the popular vote.
