- McLaurin v. Oklahoma State Regents
(339 U.S. 637 1950)
George W. McLaurin was an African American student initially denied admission to the all-white University of Oklahoma but later admitted to study for his Ph.D. in education after suing to gain admission in 1948. He was kept segregated in classrooms, the library, and the cafeteria and filed another lawsuit claiming that he was denied his rights under the Fourteenth Amendment. His case was upheld by the Supreme Court on 5 June 1950.
