Atomic Energy Act, 1946
   The Atomic Energy Act, or Mc- Mahon Act (named after Democratic senator Brien McMahon from Connecticut, who proposed the act), passed in August 1946, established civilian control of the development of atomic energy in the United States under the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. It also controlled the release of information about atomic research.
