Hydrogen bomb

Hydrogen bomb
Known as the H-bomb or super bomb, the hydrogen bomb was a development in thermonuclear weaponry that relied on fusion rather than the fission used in the atomic bomb and was a thousand times more powerful than original nuclear bombs. Although a number of advisers, including Albert Einstein and J. Robert Oppenheimer, counseled against it, on 31 January 1950 President Harry S. Truman announced that he had ordered the development of the hydrogen bomb. The first full H-bomb test took place on Eniwetok Atoll in the Pacific Ocean on 1 November 1952 following earlier tests in May 1951. The Soviet Union successfully tested its own H-bomb on 12 August 1954, and Great Britain and France followed soon afterward.
