Food Stamps

Food Stamps
In 1939, the Federal Surplus Commodities Corporation introduced a system than enabled people on relief to purchase stamps that could be used to buy surplus food stuffs. Introduced first in Rochester, New York, by 1940, 100 cities were included in the program, and by the time it ended in 1943, 20 million people had benefited. A similar program was established in 1961.
