Federal Maritime Board

Federal Maritime Board
   Established within the Department of Commerce in 1950 to replace the U. S. Maritime Commission, the Federal Maritime Board was to regulate shipping and provide subsidies for the construction of merchant shipping, maintain the National Defense Reserve Fleet, and direct merchant shipping in wartime. It was abolished in 1961.
